Prototype Research
Knock, knock Australia Post
My order from Caintode Flats Products turned up and I will be honest, this was a blind purchase as I had never seen the products in real life. I was not disappointed at all by the level of quality, it was amazing. Unfortunately, I did not take any photos but would recommend checking out the website. I added to my inventory the following:
- Bogies Bar Frame, 5Ft 2Ft 2In
- Brake Cylinders, Combined Air Tank
- Bogie Screws, #1 X 3/8 In Self Tappers
- Handbrake Assembly Complete Brass Etch
Flex Track Purchase
Excited by the purchase I headed down to my local hobby shop and took a bogie to show of my new purchase and explained to the owner I needed some track. He reached behind the cabinet pulled out a thick product catalogue and showed me the limited product range and suggested I think about my layout before purchasing too much product. As I wanted to get my scratch build models onto some simple track, I purchased a couple pieces Flex track (PECO SL-1400) and a packet of Rail Joiners (PECO SL-110).
More Research on Yarraman Tanker
In Let's have a go and Let's try another approach I had learnt scratch building was going to be fun when time is available to focus, but a couple weeks after returning from the Yarraman trip curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to find more information on the tank wagon, so I started to google around with no luck. Then when looking at my photos I noticed a faint number in one of them. The number was "44474" when adding the number to my google search, this article appeared again Westgate - South Western Rail: 3 Dome Tank Wagons/Cars
Sure enough there was the wagon in Westgate's Blog which I must have missed when I originally found the article. Paying a bit more attention to the details, I tried my luck at a couple of more google searches and found an archived article on another website written by the same gentlemen Modelling the Railways of Queensland Convention 2018 by Arthur Hayes and didn't I lose a couple hours reading away on this document.
Mr Hayes, thank you for your time and effort compiling this extensive collection of information, the value in this document is priceless and honours the great period of tank wagons in our state of Queensland.
More googling also provided me links to Westgate's Blog previous post.
Westgate - South Western Rail: OFO Bitumen Tank Wagons
Westgate - South Western Rail: OV 9 Mobil Tank Wagon
Westgate - South Western Rail: OHE Amoco Tank Wagons
I may one day still go the QLD State Archives, but the information I had located at this time was enough to help me on my way.
Until next time.
